Wivenhoe v Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 31 May 2008 at 1pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets (incomplete scorecard)

Match report Looking, quite frankly, stunning in our splendid new training kit, big thanks to Jamie, the first team travelled to sunny Essex to take on the mighty Wiv this weekend.

Eek had picked a strong side that was weakened slightly at the last moment as Reuben Sharpe was drafted in. We also welcomed back the bad parking Hugh Thomas and Tom Davey somehow held on to his place. Brad Willis was absent and has been demoted to the third team on Sunday.

Well the pitch was wet and soft, the umpires were two of our favourites and the changing rooms were gigantic. Copdock won the toss and rightly stuck the mighty Wiv in to bat first. Deon chose to steam in down the hill and left poor old Nose struggling up hill into what can only be described as a small hurricane. Nose struck first claiming two wickets in his third over, the first with a beauty that went the other way, he told the batsman too. Deon claimed the 3rd wicket to fall and Wiv were 30 for 3. A small partnership formed as Nose was rested, never to return as promised by his skipper. Something tells me he is slightly bitter about it!! At 70-3 Wiv were well in the game as the pitch was very tricky. Enter Suffolk’s premiere spinning all rounder Chris, I’ve played at Lords, Swallow. He took 3 wickets in an over and Wiv were 70-6. Things continue well for Copdock as wickets fell continually and Wiv were bowled out for 123. This did represent a tricky target and Copdock felt they had let them get 20 too many. Chris finished with 7-40 and was a constant thorn in the side for the mighty Wiv.

Copdcoks reply started swiftly with Sharpe and Jenko at the helm. This was until Jenko was bowled scared for only 8. Jervis came to the crease and decided that if it was up, it was off. He struck 4 boundaries in his run a ball 18. Shapre continued were Jerv left off and was out for an excellently crafted 38. Rain-man came and went and Chris Swallow scored 26 not out with 2 huge sixes. The winning runs were scored by Nose, which nobody deserved to do more than him.

Copdock picked up 20 pts and have moved into 3rd.

Big game next weekend against top of the table Mildenhall. The future’s bright, the future’s Copdock.
