Match report The Dragons went to the beautiful setting of Easton for their first away league match. Missing the Ipswich school gang due to athletics, the team were indebted to KJ and lewis c for stepping in, and Sanjay who fielded until Max arrived 45 mins after the game started!.
Winning the toss we chose to bowl. The Easton openers Wilson and Sunderland played well, though our bowling and fielding had a distinctly average feel to all it all night,, typified by 20 runs given to the opposition in wides and no balls, and a number of run out opportunities spurned. After Wilson had to retire and Sunderland was run out we managed to stem the runs to a degree, and on a decent track and with a fast outfield against modest bowling we should have won comfortably chasing 102.
Now cricket is at times the funniest game, for the first 4 overs , with Martson giving a master class in decision making, footwork and running it looked like we could be home in time for tea as we raced to 39 for o off 4 overs. Martson had to retire , and then from this point a truly torrid batting performance by the team set in. To recount the full details is arguably too painfull but a combination of not taking any singles, completing not calling, two run outs with both batsmen at one end meant we slumped 81 for 8!! We got home mainly as Easton had bowled out their best bowlers and their total of 39 extras got us home.
Life is all about ups and downs and learning, but it is a worry that such a talented team at the moment seem unable to transmit their talent into good performances on the pitch, which will if not corrected surely cost us dear this year in our quest for the Suffolk u13 performance league crown..
