Woodbridge & O.W.'s v Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 08 Aug 2015 at 1pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Lost by 6 wickets

Match report A second consecutive defeat at the hands of Woodbridge effectively ended Copdocks promotion push this weekend, barring a Flopdock style choke from either East Bergholt or IES.

Following a disappointing slump against East Bergholt, Copdock were keen to get things back on track. Ashwin had secured a deserved call up to the premier league side and Gravell and East returned to the seconds to enjoy Reuben Sharpe Day with the troubled genius himself. After taking advice from JP Ironfist called correctly and on a pitch looking pretty flat and slow opted to bat. Progress was sedate to begin with Sharpe contending with an impressive opening display from Oswald and Gravell mixing watchful defence with the odd sublime effort, one such clip through the legside even drawing a girly whoop from Gravell himself. Eventually the run rate increased as Reuben found the form of previous Reuben Sharpe Days of old and Copdock found themselves excellently placed at 122 off 30 overs before Gravell eventually nicked one to the keeper. Karl 'Never Ending' Storey joined Reuben and keen to find himself a new nickname attempted to steal The Run Out Kings title with a series of back turns and suspect singles. Eventually 'Toy' Storey succeeded and Reuben returned to the hutch for an excellent 89. Despite a clatter of wickets, including an average deflating 5 for Percival (which puts him squarely in the sights of East), Hopkins and 'Multi' Storey saw Copdock advance to 220 for 4 off the full 45 overs.

Perhaps a few shy of where we could have got to, but chat over an old fashioned tea with all the family favourites, was that we should be able to defend this.

The Woodbridge innings began with a flurry of activity, Hugo being dealt with severely by opener Green wherever line or length strayed. Woodbridge's fast start faltered only momentarily as Hugo removed the other opener and after a few wild hacks gnarled old pro East removed the skipper and ended his ugly innings. With Ironfist looking to gain some control he went to spin twins East and Jenkin. Unfortunately the Woodbridge pair of Porker and Green hadn't read the script. A succession of hacks found gaps, clothed wipes found space and when they did find fielders chances went begging, be it catches, stumpings or run outs. Porker played well finding gaps and putting fielders under pressure but in truth an inadequate fielding and bowling display from the outset had Woodbridge well ahead after 30 overs. In a last throw of the dice Ironfist went to the pace of Douglas and 'ST' Fe. Both found the spot 'G' was looking for and encouraged by Gravell, who after 30 overs took it upon himself to try and lift everybody, shouting like Peter Pan on speed, began to claw Flopdock back into the game. Woodbridge were able to find crucial boundaries just when needed though and remained ahead of the game, ending up winning at a relative canter despite the best efforts of 'HI' Fe and Hugo.

Ultimately a similar (Karl) Storey to some earlier defeats with some remiss performance in the field aiding the opposition get more than they should and a game that was there to win slipping past. Definitely things to build on and things to be pleased with. Add that winning mentality and we'll become a force to be reckoned with.
