Match report Copdock Sharks arrived at Chantry Park to the strains of Jessie J warming up for East Coast Live, hoping to keep alive their hopes of maintaining their 100% win record for 2014. Skipper Cowan won the toss and after surveying the rainbow clad sky chose to bat, Brown and Towers decided to stand up and open the batting and whilst they didn’t conquer the world they laid a solid foundation which was built upon steadily by Pearson and Fawcett. Enter batting hero Simpson who struck gold for the Sharks with a laserlight 21 from 14 deliveries ably assisted by Quinton who was happy to relinquish his wicket on more than one occasion in order to rotate the strike. Spinner and Wilson were next to unite at the crease moving the score along to 264 leaving Sharma and Cowen to breathe life into the innings with a partnership of 31 a silver lining for the Sharks on an increasingly cloudy evening. Copdock Sharks finishing the innings 295-5. Drinks was a swift affair with both teams keen to avoid the predicted thunder which would be difficult to hear amongst the now heavy baseline drifting over the park. Copdock took to the field with I.E.S. keeping up with the run rate until Spinner, Wilson and Cowen turned the stumps into dominos returning I.E.S. back to square one. It was however the 3 catches behind the stumps by Brown that sent the crowd wild and left I.E.S. trailing at stumps 248-10. The usual thank you’s go out to our hosts I.E.S. who’s bowling and fielding were exemplary and also to parent helpers, scores and umpires. You know who you are and it is difficult to put a price-tag on what you do! Wickets were the difference in a 47 run win that has the Sharks daydreamin’ but in the words of Miss J, Nobody’s perfect and the bigger we are the harder we fall!
