Springfield 2nd XI v Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Sunday XI on Sun 18 May 2014 at 1pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Lost by 160 runs

Match report A glorious day in Chelmsford, tricky outfield (recovering rugby pitch)green wicket which despite the heat suggested put them in.
Once again the skipper lost the toss and was surprised by the opposition electing to bat - that should have told us something!
Harey Harvey opened up bowling with real pace and accuracy and gave their openers a lot to think about with a combination of playing and missing and edges going for 4 on the hard bouncy outfield. The pitch turned out to be a belter and anything off line or short was dispatched. Josh Bull ably supported, and was unlucky to have a couple of sharp catching chances put down early on. Harry bowled the guy doing all the early damage in his 4th over with an unplayable swinging yorker, but that was the last chance offered until the 38th over, Springfield batted exceptionally well and the second wicket partnership had exceeded 200 by the time Jamie Smith was edged to Benn Carr at gully who calmly took his first ever catch having just started playing cricket. Springfield finished on 353 for 2.
We started the chase in style with Dave Searle hitting 2 sixes in the first over looking confident having been reunited with his old sparring partner at the other end. An opening stand of 63 off 11 overs by Dave and Dick before Dick was bowled for 17 showed Springfield that we were going to make a fight of it. Harry shortly followed from a very sharp caught and bowled and Dave went to one that shot along the ground for 54 leaving us 80 for 3 off 16 overs. Archie Wilkinson and Daran Tharaneetharen then steadied the ship, putting on 65 before Daran went for 28 in the 26th over. Wickets fell steadily and we were eventually all out for 193 in the 36th over having at least given it a go. Despite being outclassed (an occupational hazard in this league) three performances stood out. Dave Searle was his ever reliable self with both bat and ball, Harry Harvey bowled with real pace and accuracy giving some very good batsman a lot to think about and Archie Wilkinson has found his mojo again after a disappointing season last year with a faultless 53 and was unfortunate to be caught off the very first false shot he played all afternoon.
