Scorecard

Achilles v Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Under 13 Crusaders on Thu 24 May 2012 at 6pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets

Match report Phoenix made it three straight wins out of 3 with another comfortable win over Achilles. Stand in Captain James Gray lost the toss an Achilles elected to bat.

Another powerful bowling and fielding display from Phoenix saw Achilles collapse to 33 for 6 in 8 overs both opening bowlers (Taylor and Gaffer) taking three of the wickets in the first four overs. Achilles then staged a mini-fight back pushing the score onto 59 in the 16th over before one aggressive drive too many pinged back past the bowler from Buchanan was pouched assuredly by Gaffer off the bowling of Taylor. During this fight back Tommy Downie bagged three more wickets in a single over taking his tally to 6 wockets in 3 matches.

The remaining Achilles batsmen saw out the 20 but wthout doing a great deal of damage to the scorecard.

Confident in their progress to date, Phoenix took the field but it wasn't lomng before some very tight Achilles bowling put a young Copdock side under some stiff pressure. Openers Gray and Potter went in consecutive overs and James Doig (on debut for Phoenix standing in for his brother) fought bravely before presenting a catch to take Mildowns tally to two.

Debutant Edward Lloyd who only started playing cricket this season came to the crease and although nervous stood up to the bowling of Achilles well to enter a second best score of the innings for the Copdock batsmen.

Dropped catches and some poor middle order bowling saw the run rate creep up again allowing Phoenix to begin to assert their authority. Ed Lloyd and Bailey Gibbs both fell to some more inspired bowling from Mildown (4-0-12-4) and up stepped Joe Williams who in the previous two innings had gone for two consecutive first ball ducks... Joe survived that first ball to stave off a hat-trick of ducks and went on to post an unbeaten 21 to put those previous two innings well and tryuly behind him.

Needing 18 from the five remaining overs Copdock once again wobbled needing a further 3.5 overs to knock off the runs before Gaffer finished the win off with a pull shot 4 through mid-wicket.

Phoenix's man of the match was Oscar Taylor who only narrowly missed out on a fifer.
