Scorecard

Bury St Edmunds v Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 21 Apr 2012 at 11am
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets

Match report Well the New season has arrived, as has Reuben’s 24th child.

A few hard decisions were made with the selection, with Ashwin, Ethan, Popey and Reuben missing out. Everyone understands we have a decent first XI squad and if we are to stay as competitive as possible everyone will get their chances and will need to perform to get into the side and stay there.

Christi has arrived and is clearly short of confidence, even the horrid pink shorts on show on Sunday can’t hide that fact. He’s bonded with Dibbo and at times they look uncomfortably close.

Having met at the ground at 5.30 am we made our way to the Victory ground. An article in the Bury Free Press suggested that Rashy thought a comfortable win was on the Cards for the EAPL stalwarts Bury St. Edmunds.

Pidge won the toss with a head and Copdock would bowl. Nobody had actually seen Christi bowl, so Kinga and the slips had absolutely no idea where to stand. After seeing the first ball they should really have stood up. If Christi hadn’t had the wind in his favour and bowled down a steep hill, he’d have been slightly slower than the pacey Nose.

Bury have a fairly strong top order – but they were blown away by a superb opening spell from the pro. He looks a decent cricketer and got the first 2 wickets with a bouncer / Yorker combination and Bury were reeling.

The Crusaders never gave Bury a chance to rest and Nose, Jenko and Eek combined to support Christi and Bury slumped to 56 all out. A really good start to the EAPL for Copdock. The pitch hadn’t misbehaved, a few rash shots and good bowling resulted in a score well under par.

Rain over Lunch meant a delay and when Copdock got started Nelly was adjudged LBW for 0 and Archie followed shortly afterwards, again LBW. This meant with the weather closing in Dibbo and Jed were left to knock off the remaining runs.

A superb start for the boys. Nobody is getting to carried away – but that’s now 20 wins in a row... yep – you read that right – 20!

The future’s bright – the future’s Copdock
